Shimoni, the little fishermen village, is not far from Mwazaro Beach. It will take you an hour walk to get there. On the "Highway to Shimoni", as Hans von Loesch is calling the street, you can also go by Matatu (a Kenyan taxi-bus) for 20 KSH. Shimoni, which means "Place of the Hole", is famous for its historical slave-caves. In a tour of half an hour through the underground caves, you will get an interesting insight in the dark past of Kenya.

From this place do all other trips to the protected Kisite Navy Park or the Wasini Island do start as well.
